What’s the Difference Between a Golf Cart and a Low Speed Vehicle (LSV)?

LSVs
Meets the Dept of Transportation (DOT) Federal Motor Vehicle Standard No. 500 (49 CFR 571.500). Each vehicle carries a VIN registered with the Dept of Transportation (DMV). Subject to State Laws and local requirements.
SC law permits LSVs on roads posted 35mph or less 24 hours a day.
Operated only by licensed drivers 16 years and older.
Vehicles must be titled and registered with following documentation: form 400, form ti-007, paid property taxes, Manufacture’s Certificate of Origin or Title Transfer (SCDOT, Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards).

Golf Carts
Typically made for the golf course and contained neighborhood complexes. Generally considered less safe than a LSV or NEV. Each vehicle requires registration with the DMV to a licensed driver for a Golf Cart permit. Subject to only State Laws and local requirement.
SC law permits Golf Carts on secondary roads posted 35 mph or less during Day Light hours only AND within 4 miles of the vehicles registered address.
Operated only by licensed drivers 16 years and older.
